Burned out toiling in Great Britain’s state-owned National Health Service, doctors are fleeing the NHS and the U.K. for greener pastures, almost 8,000 since 2008, the Financial Times reports. “Doctors at all levels complain of an overly bureaucratic NHS where they lack control,” reporter Jane Ward writes.

“Many report extensive ‘goodwill hours’ and coming in on days off, which would breach European Union working time regulations if recorded, and say only family and friends in the UK keep them from making a move abroad,” the story said.
